Nichia Laser Diodes for Projection
Cinema Quality at Home with Nichia LDs
Laser projectors can have a smaller cooling mechanism due to their low power consumption, making them more compact than conventional lamp-based projectors. Additionally, their flexibility for installation direction allows projection from various angles and positions, enhancing spatial design flexibility. Nichia has been working to develop and commercialize smaller, higher-quality, and more affordable packages to bring cinema-quality visual experiences everywhere. From compact home projectors to large-scale business projectors, Nichia meets diverse needs.
Achieve Stunning and Vibrant Images
Projectors that use laser diodes (LDs) as the light source produce a significantly wider color gamut and more vivid color images compared to projectors with LEDs or conventional lamp light sources. Additionally, since LDs emit light within an extremely narrow spectrum, the color of each RGB is extremely pure, with no color blurring occurring. This allows for the rendering of colors and immersive visuals that were difficult to reproduce with conventional light sources. Nichia laser diodes also can maintain a wide color gamut even under ambient light, therefore delivering an immersive, realistic, high-quality visual experience in a variety of applications and environments, including home theaters, cinemas, bright conference rooms, and large-scale event venues.

Replacing Mercury Lamps with Laser Diodes
Mercury lamps, which have been widely used as light sources for projectors, pose the risk of environmental pollution. Therefore, laser diodes (LDs), which do not contain mercury, are expected to replace them. However, LD light sources are not widespread yet since many of the projectors used in conference rooms and educational settings (2,000 to 8,000 lm) still use ultra high-pressure mercury lamps. Nichia continues to promote replacing mercury lamps with LDs—long-lasting, energy-saving light sources—to contribute to cost reduction and environmental preservation.

Perfect Brightness for Large-Scale Visuals
Nichia's laser diodes (LDs) deliver exceptionally bright light, enabling vivid image projection on large screens. This capability ensures detailed, dynamic visuals, making it ideal for spacious venues such as movie theaters and large-scale event halls. Additionally, LDs are the ideal light source for projectors when creating special visual effects in large spaces or bright environments where high brightness is essential, such as projection mapping and immersive applications.
